Anatomy - Case 2

Mandibular premolars thankfully have less variability than maxillary premolars. The incidence of two canals in the first premolar is about 20%. There is a relatively high frequency of up to 20% in some studies of having one canal that divides near the apex. This case obviously has an unusual shape apically.
As is often the case, we only see what we are really dealing with once the canals are filled. It is a challenge to try and manage these situations when the branch is very deep into the root. Thankfully, the mandibular second premolar has even less variability and is more often one canal.
